Mount Vesuvius is the active volcano outside of Naples, Italy, the region that popularized pizza. The rich volcanic soil is an excellent environment for producing the special plum tomatoes used for pizza. Local water buffalo provided rich milk for producing the region's signature mozzarella di bufala.
The fiery furnace contained within Mount Vesuvius is an appropriate symbol for the intense heat of the traditional wood-burning oven of the early pizza makers.
VWFP takes the best of traditional methods and melds it with the best local produce the Midwest has to offer to create a new local tradition.
